Think Reality.org is born out of a frustration of people not looking seriously at life. We are given one life to live and I personally want to make the most of it.
I find that in this pursuit of the meaning of life, that there are many voices who are motivated by self interest or are lacking in their understanding of truth. But there are still many nuggets waiting for the persistent seeker. This website is not an attempt to come up with a great unifying understanding of life, but rather to encourage fellow seekers and provide insights which have felt important.
There are days when I go to sleep or wake up in horror of the thought of dying, but these are fewer and fewer. This is funny as most of the people I know, as they are growing old, become more and more depressed at the thought of death. Instead, my anticipation and excitement for that day grows as I consider the marvels of the universe and truths passed down through time.
You really don't need to know much about me and I don't like talking about myself. After all, this website is about the ideas presented in it rather than who I am. Still there are a couple of things that might be worth knowing about me.
In elementary school, I was fascinated by war, especially World War Two. It combined the three biggest passions in my life: cool technology, strategy to win, and people. This passion also opened up my mind to death. I still remember a two volume Time and Life book series on the war and a painting of a man with his entire left arm blown away with blood dripping from the hole. Through this and many other examples (another vivid memory are stories of death camps), that drove a believe that life is a precious gift which will end one day.
My thought processes are unusual. I am both very logical, but have a strong will and high imagination. As such, much of what you read in this website was original to my thoughts, but later found other deep thinkers who had similar thoughts. After all, King Soloman once said there is nothing new under the sun.
I practice what I preach. I have read through the Bible enough times that I have lost count. I love doing Bible Studies with other people as other perspectives are exciting to hear and understand. In some ways, I feel like I can see God through their eyes as they discuss him. My method in Bible Studies is generally Socratic. I found people learn better when they are the ones discovering rather than when they are taught.
At the same time, I have not accomplished any formal theological training. I believe that the Holy Spirit is the best teacher and try to learn something from Him every day though too often I get too busy with life to spend enough time with Him.
Finally, I find this website freeing. I have a lot of friends who will not understand some of the philosophical discussions or who don't appreciate my dedication to Jesus. I usually hold back these thoughts when talking as I don't find them "edifying" for other people, but expressing these thoughts is good for me.
